What
we do
From Foodbanks to Food Tanks, to education, our areas of focus offer the opportunity to dramatically improve the quality of life for African American adolescents in Baltimore. So we build partnerships that bring together resources, expertise, and vision—working with the best organizations around the globe to identify issues, find answers, and drive change.
Food Tank
Food donations
Non-perishable, in-date food is donated by the public at a range of places, such as schools, churches, and businesses, as well as supermarket collection points. It is then sorted into emergency food parcels by more than 28,000 volunteers, to be given to people in crisis.
Food vouchers
Care professionals such as health visitors, staff at schools and social workers identify people in crisis and issue them with a food bank voucher. This means people can receive a food bank parcel of three days’ nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food from their local food bank.
Additional support
Our food bank network helps people break free from poverty by providing additional support to help people resolve the crises they’re facing so that they don’t need to use a food bank again in the future. This could include things like debt advice, mental health support, or benefits guidance . Food banks rely on the support of their local communities to support people in crisis.

Healthy Eathing Tips
Our education projects differ from most food education as they are based on the idea that food means pleasure, culture, and conviviality. Our education initiatives are organized for varied audiences of children and adults, teachers, Slow Food members, and the general public, and form an integral part of Slow Food events and campaigns. They take many different forms: informational blogging about healthy eating, school garden visit, farm visits, knowledge exchange between generations, practical workshops, and meals with producers. FoodTank is changing this narrative by not just providing food to these classes of African Americans but also educating them on proper dieting. We do this through our blog.

Food Campaign
Over 35% of all food in America is wasted! And we - consumers - are the largest source of it. More than grocery stores and restaurants combined. But there's good news: we can do something about it. Instead of throwing away the food, our teams can pass by you and pick them (So far they are non-perishable foods. Our team is working every day to connect individuals and organizations that want to help others who are in desperate need of food. Our "Hunger should kick the can" is our flagship food campaign drive.
